PAST EVENTS:

Dear Families, Parents, and Community Members,

As many of you know, there was a fatal police shooting yesterday in Brooklyn Center where Daunte Wright was killed.  While there are many unknowns at this time, one thing we do know is that yet another Black body was killed by law enforcement in our own backyards.  With that comes a whole host of emotions, on top of the other layers of emotion we are experiencing due to things like the continued pandemic, returning to in-person learning or not returning to in-person learning, the Derek Chauvin murder trial, life in general, etc.

As we sit here crafting this email, there really are no words we can string together to express what we are feeling in our hearts.  Sadness, anger, trauma, desperation, confusion, and more.  And as we process, we know that it is important to provide space for community to come together.  This can be tricky with COVID, but we won't let that be a barrier to our healing.  We have created virtual spaces before to process, grieve and heal, and are willing to do that now.  See the end of this email for the links to those spaces.  We by no means have all the answers, but we are prepared to hear you and stand with you.  If you have any questions or need to connect with any of us individually, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Please know that we are here to provide support and resources, knowing that it might look different for everyone and that needs may change daily.

Virtual Healing Spaces:

Much love,

Your OBSA Team

Michael, Dena, Isa, Nneka, Umar, Qiana, Marques, Richard, Jamil, & Shamaria
